Positive Behaviour Support

Helping you build confidence through Positive Behaviour Support.

Understanding behaviour is about understanding people.

At Brain Buddy, we work alongside participants, families and support networks to understand the reasons behind behaviours and develop practical and proactive strategies that improve quality of life, increase independence and support meaningful participation in everyday activities.

Understanding Positive Behaviour Support

Behaviour is a way of communicating.

Sometimes behaviours tell us that a person's needs aren't being met, they're finding something challenging, or they're trying to communicate in the best way they know how.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) helps us understand these behaviours so we can respond with compassion, practical strategies and meaningful support.

Rather than simply trying to reduce behaviours of concern, we focus on improving quality of life by building skills, increasing independence and creating supportive environments where people can thrive.

Our Approach — Positive Behaviour Support — Brain Buddy

Our Approach

Our approach to Positive Behaviour Support is person-centred, collaborative and guided by each participant's individual goals. We take the time to understand the person and what may be influencing their behaviour before responding, working alongside participants and their support networks to develop proactive and preventative strategies that build on strengths, encourage positive change and support lasting outcomes.

Our approach is guided by four key principles:

Understanding before responding

We seek to understand why behaviours occur before recommending strategies.

Building strengths

Supports focus on developing skills and increasing opportunities rather than restricting choice.

Working together

Participants, families and support teams are involved throughout the process.

Respecting individuality

Supports are neuro-affirming, trauma-informed and tailored to each person's unique needs.

Positive Behaviour Support is about more than responding to behaviours of concern. It's about understanding the person, identifying what may be influencing behaviour and developing positive, practical strategies that build skills, independence, wellbeing and quality of life.

NDIS-Approved Practitioners

Personalised to You

Every participant is different. Our Behaviour Support Practitioners take the time to understand your strengths, needs, goals, environment and circumstances, shaping support around what is meaningful and relevant to your everyday life.

Evidence-Based & Responsive Strategies

We use evidence-based strategies informed by assessment, observation and an understanding of the function of behaviour. Where needed, plans may also include safe and appropriate reactive strategies to guide how others respond when behaviours of concern occur, while maintaining the participant's dignity and safety.

Building Skills for Greater Independence

Our Behaviour Support Plans incorporate competency-based teaching strategies that help participants develop practical skills for everyday life. This may include building communication, emotional regulation, decision-making and daily living skills to support greater choice, confidence and independence.

Working Together for Consistent Support

Positive outcomes are strengthened through consistency. With your consent, we work collaboratively with families, carers, schools, Support Coordinators, support workers and other implementing providers to help strategies be understood and applied consistently across everyday environments.

Dignity, Choice & Quality of Life

Everything we do is centred on the participant's rights, dignity, choice and quality of life. Our culturally responsive, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approach aims to reduce restrictive practices wherever possible while supporting greater inclusion, participation and meaningful engagement in everyday life.

Proactive & Preventative Support

Where possible, we focus on proactive and preventative strategies that address the factors influencing behaviours of concern before they occur. This may include adapting environments, strengthening communication, building routines and creating positive opportunities for participation and engagement.
